The trials and delights of buying yarn online

When I sillily started this scarf with only two 50g balls of yarn, I quickly realised that I was going to have to get some more. So I went to my LYS, then all the other yarn shops I knew in London, then discovered some more yarn shops – no Rowan Classic Natural Silk Aran in shade 470 to be seen in a single one of them. I tried the web and was crazy pleased to find that John Lewis stocked it; I order and wait. And wait. And wait. And ring to complain. And wait. Nine weeks, two phantom deliveries, and a refund later, still no yarn. This made me grumpy. I was left with a half-finished scarf, no yarn, and no faith in John Lewis. Wary though I was, I tried the web again and discovered the fabulous and lovely Lana Pura. The yarn that took John Lewis nine weeks to not deliver was on my doorstep within a week. Hurrah!

Tasked with knitting a Sackboy for my darling husband (you’ll be hearing all about this, don’t you worry), I decided to visit Lana Pura again. I ordered on Thursday at 5.30pm – the postman rings the doorbell on Saturday morning and hands me my yarn. And it’s free delivery! I had ordered some yarn sewing needles that cost 95p; I opened my parcel to find a hand written note from Alison telling me that these needles were out of stock and she hoped that I would accept a knitter’s starter kit, which contained sewing needles, instead. This kit was not only £4.60, but contained a few little ingredients that I was getting around to buying anyway.

Beautiful yarn, fantastic customer service, quick delivery, and an ace reduced section – if you knit or crochet, visit Lana Pura right now!

Always good to hear a recommendation like that – buying online can be such a crapshoot. Maybe I should make us a nice “online shopping heroes” badge for these sorts of posts… Or maybe I should just finish all the layout stuff I’ve started first!
