Leigh Clarke - Love

The trouble with a lot of contemporary art, and also with so much of the media, is it so often focuses on the negative aspects of modern life. Important stuff I know, but it can get you down, especially since a trip to a gallery is supposed to be an enjoyable way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

:: New poster designs from Keep Calm

Posters by Keep Calm

Probably my favourite thing on my wall at home is my red Keep Calm and Carry On poster. It hangs in the centre of my flat where it encourages me whenever I see it. I got mine for a bargainous £3.60 from independent Alnwick booksellers Barter Books, who printed up copies after finding a genuine old WW2 era fly-poster amongst some old books. The classic British design has since spawned a nation of imitators, silkscreened onto everything from tea towels, to sweaters, to bags.

Lucas and Hayley over at Keep Calm started with some silkscreened posters in a range of softer colours, but I am delighted to see that they have expanded their range of designs. I love the typographic designs that use a similar British ‘chin up’ style (the Tea Revives You print is top of my Christmas list this year).

Also worth a look are their limited edition artists’ prints. I love these screen printed illustrations by Alyson Fox (left) and Jillian Ditner.
