Welcome back to Four Good Corners, where we are now back posting again after our Christmas break. May I wish all our readers a very happy, crafty new year. We’re full of ideas for this blog in 2008. I hope you’ll join us.
At the start of 2007 I couldn’t sew, and I couldn’t screenprint. Now I can do both of these things and I want to do lots more. I have so many planned craft projects for 2008 I don’t know where to start.
Project ideas list:
- I love Hillary Lang’s coin quilt and fancy having a go at making a lap quilt version. It looks simple enough for a first try doesn’t it?
- Sew my own clothes for the first time, starting with a pattern from Sew U.
- Make a shirt with big buttons
- Freezer paper stencil everything in sight
- Sew a nappy bag and changing mat for baby Francesca, and another for my friend Kelli who is expecting a baby in 2008.
- Bibs for baby Francesca (she is certainly encouraging me!)
- Make some cloud shaped cushions from charity shop jumpers a la Donna Wilson
- Make some nice pyjamas. This was on my list but I got some great PJs for Christmas from my husband so no need now.
- Improve my skill at adding zips
- Embroider some Sublime Stitching designs, maybe their dachshunds or vegetables templates.
- Learn the art of paper cutting
- Make lots of tote bags for people
- Paint the bedroom
- Plait fabric scraps into a mat
- Make more pies and quiches
- Plan an awesome holiday, and go on more day trips and UK weekends away
- Maybe get a gocco machine and print some cards
- Make more shaped cushions from screenprinted pictures
- Have a go at the felted wool slippers in the current Craft magazine, if I can muster enough knitting patience
- Learn more about html so I can help Kerry with the admin of this blog
I haven’t made any new year’s resolutions this year. I think this will be more than enough to keep me busy!

I have the best tote bag tutorial - it’s one that I adapted from Craftster. I’ll post about it with pictures as soon as I can get my new camera working!
PS: The last one sounds great!

My craft resolutions for 2008:
Felt a bag. If it works well, make more for presents.
Knit a chunky beret. If it works well, make more for presents.
Make a bath mat for my parents’ bathroom.
Learn how to crochet in the round.
Learn how to use double pointed knitting pins.
Use my sewing machine!
Sew an apron and some curtains or a blind for the kitchen (is it cheating to make a window-sized and -shaped rectangle and stick it on the window frame with velcro?)
Make some crocheted jewellery for Emily.
Finish at least two things every month (this one really is a clincher. I’m all about the good intentions, but my attention span is a little short)
Good luck with yours!

Erica - your resolutions sound fab, too! Everyone is going to have such a crafty 2008.
I’m so pleased that someone is learning to crochet at the same time as I am - let’s be in the same city soon so that we can swap tips!

I need to learn to use my sewing machine - definitely my big aim for 2008…

Great ideas Erica! Thanks for sharing them. How are you planning your bathmat? The plaited fabric scraps mat idea would make a good one, as would the knitted t-shirt scraps on in Making Stuff.

I am actually intending to use some bamboo yarn, some of the sirdar juniper yarn, and another yarn with bits sticking off it, knitted all together with 20mm knitting needles. Then stitched onto a towel, so the towelling forms a border. I got the idea from the December issue of Lets Knit. It looks good in the picture, lets hope it looks good in real life!!
I like the idea of using fabric scraps for knitting or crochet - I’ve seen some great examples. I never have nice scraps though. All my old clothes are in dull colours. I only have new clothes in nice colours!

Ooh sounds nice!
I now what you mean about fabric scraps! And I am kicking myself for taking loads of old t shirts to a charity shop instead of saving them up for a craft project. Oh well, I’m sure I’ll have collected plenty of scraps by the end of the year.
