Leigh Clarke – Love
The trouble with a lot of contemporary art, and also with so much of the media, is it so often focuses on the negative aspects of modern life. Important stuff I know, but it can get you down, especially since a trip to a gallery is supposed to be an enjoyable way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
That’s probably why I was so taken with Leigh Clarke’s Hackney Gazette posters, which put good news headlines in place of bad. Hackney Gazette is my local rag, so I am used to seeing these posters up around the place, too often with stories of stabbings, scandals or suchlike.
Leigh Clarke – Couple
These are on show as part of the No Letters exhibition at Nettie Horn, 25b Vyner St, London, E2 9DG in Bethnal Green, until 21 April.

That looks like a lot of fun. It just reminds me that newstands don’t exist here like that as there’s no real national paper – and you can buy the paper out of those box thingies. Weird.

I like the newspaper bix thingies – they’re sweet! I miss America, as it’s about a year since I visited you, Mo.
That’s a lovely exhibition, Jo – the thought of it makes me smile.
