pizza

I was a lucky wifey last night and was treated to homemade pizza! Simon made the dough and everything – not a packet mix to be seen.

dough

It was a simple dough of plain flour, yeast, and water, which Simon pepped up with some herbs. He got really excited watching the dough rise – he kept running back to see how much it had grown! He made a passata of chopped tomatoes, garlic, onion, and herbs, which was delicious, and then sprinkled on a classy looking array of toppings. It was incredibly tasty and not nearly as much effort as we’d have thought (well, I put zero effort in…), so we’ve made a pact to cook ‘from scratch’ at the weekends when we have more time; and, hopefully, this will provide healthy, natural food for the week as well.

Not that we’re at that point, but pizza making seems like it would make a great family activity, with everyone designing their own pizza so that they get a personalised meal at the end of it. If our flat was so miniscule, I might suggest a pizza party to the same end.

    Wow that looks amazing!

I like the idea of a pizza making party too. I think my mum used to make faces with food for me sometimes – you could decorate your pizzas with food pictures.

Mmmmmmm. That herby lump of dough looks amazing…

My guilty secret is a recipe that requires zero rising time – you just make it, stick the toppings on, in the oven and bang it’s ready. I’m hoping to make a vegan pizza soon, I was thinking probably without cheese but I bought a vegan mozzarella today that needs experimenting with.
