:: Japanese Elephants?

I’m pretty taken with my new book of amigurumi crochet, which is full of cute little toys to make. I whipped up this elephant for a friend’s baby in a few hours. The book has a quite bizarre diagramatic pattern method, which I found slightly annoying to begin with - it may really work for some people, but I like words!

I defected back to two needles to knit these adorable little booties for another friends’ baby (it’s Baby Central around my way lately). The booties are a slight variation on Saartjee’s pattern, which are hugely popular but for some reason I can’t find the original pattern right now! The hat is crochetted from a pattern in The Happy Hooker, but worked with thinner yarn on smaller needles to fit a tiny new baby. Mmm, babies!

    You’re so good at adapting patterns to your needs, I’m always super impressed and I love the elephant.

    Only because I’m too rubbish to make up my own patterns - the only pattern I’ve ever written was for the Cirrus scarf I made at Christmas.

    I’m so jealous you can crochet so quickly! It takes me forever to make small things… I am usually crocheting on the bus/in the pub though!!!

    I love the elephant, it’s adorable. And I’d probably prefer the diagrams - I’m more of a picture girl than a word girl! :)

    Em - I’ll bring the book up in May and you can see if you like it. It was fairly cheap on Amazon and has pretty patterns that are fairly adaptable (a big plus with patterns for me).

    Yeah I love to adapt patterns too, so sounds like it might be good - I’d love to look through it, thanks! :)
