Despite being pretty sure that I’d freak out and curl up in a ball under the bench until the ‘flight’ was over, I booked a go on the London Eye for my man’s birthday a couple of weekends ago. I got a bit shakey in the queue and I totally freaked when the ushers did a bomb sweep before we got on, but it was actually really pleasant – the ride is smooth, I felt totally safe, and on a clear day I bet you can see for a good long way. It was unfortunately pretty foggy, but it was still quite atmospheric.

I do adore London! It’s such an amazing city and I just feel happy being in it, even when I’m not doing anything particularly exciting. I love cycling to work and taking it all in, rather than being crammed underground and missing out. I’ve never felt like this about a city I’ve lived in before and I hope that I always live near enough to come and appreciate it. No more North for me!

Hmmm… not sure I love your comments on the poor old North which has a lot of fab cities going for it! I DID freak out on the London Eye. Well done for being far braver!

Oh yes, the North does have amazing cities and I’m not putting it down at all! Go the North! I’ve just never felt as at home anywhere as I do in London and I think I’ll be sticking around down here, is all. :)

Kirsty, I remember when you were up North you calling yourself northern and saying how much you loved the north and how pretty Leeds was…….. so I’m not quite sure what the North did to suddenly offend you.

I do hope you’re not becoming one of those people who only see London and think the rest of the UK doesn’t matter.

You’re totally right, Em (though I only ever called myself northern ironically, as I’m clearly not) – Leeds is a great city and I was really excited to live there in the beginning. Things just didn’t go right for me there – I’m not saying it was Leeds’ fault. Leeds has got a lot to offer, of course, but I tried for the whole 18 months to get a publishing job up there and it never happened; five weeks in London and I had one.

You Bradford lasses are taking this as a personal attack when all I’m actually saying is that I love living in London and I don’t plan to move back up north! :P I’m glad I lived in York and Leeds and no where in this post have I said that those three years were bleak or horrific. Also, I met you, didn’t I? Yay the North! xx

Okay. I’m glad you feel at home in London, and that’s a good thing, of course! :) But, some of us quite like up north too…

And as for the rest of your post, I would love to go on the London eye and am very jealous, it looks great. I keep meaning to go on the Yorkshire eye but haven’t got round to that one yet either!

As I’m not terrified of big swingy wheels anymore, maybe we can take a spin when I visit (hopefully at the end of May…)

  7. Em Says:

That would be good, as Dan is still terrified of big swingy wheels! :)
