10 Green BottlesThe few days of sunshine here have passed, replaced by greyness and a chill wind, so I am taking up Soule Mama’s lead today and posting 10 reasons to be joyful. Ways to beat the February funk, she says. To my mind “funk” always meant spandex, afros and platform shoes rather than dull, dark days, but I’m in agreement that February can get you down.

So to redress the balance, here’s my 10. Do feel free to join in, either in the comments or with a link to your own blog post.

::1 – The ongoing joy of mittens, bought for me for Christmas by Vanessa. Why have I been wearing gloves for so long when mittens are so much cosier?

:: 2 – Feasting still on my memories of a weekend in Bruges with my husband. The photos here are from the trip, I keep going back to look at them.

:: 3 – #2 is helped by the bottles of delicious Bruges Zot beer we brought back from the brewery tour we did there.
Bruges
:: 4 – Little things noticed in passing: the couple dancing on Leicester Square tube platform at 9am the other morning.

:: 5 – It’s London fashion week, and even away from the shows the people watching has been good. Slick Italian middle aged men in Vivienne Westwood jackets and crocodile shoes, gawky models, all elbows, Prada bags and oversized specs.

:: 6 – Anticipation: of a new job starting in March, and planning some clothes making for the few days respite I have beforehand.

:: 7 – Hot water bottles
Postbox
:: 8 – The inexplicable but rather lovely channel devoted entirely to birdsong on our new digital radio.

:: 9 – Michael Palin taking me on a trip around the Pacific ring, as I sit on the bus to work.

:: 10 – Companionable quietness at home – cooking, sewing, reading, web browsing – together but in our own spaces.

Thanks for the inspiration Amanda. Happy weekend everyone!

February has one giant reason to be cheerful for me – it isn’t January!

This month I am mostly enjoying riding my bike through London on the crisp winter mornings.

  2. Peter Says:

It’s funny – have you heard that birdsong channel has more listeners than it did when it was a talk radio station?

And you have to discover the joy of Dutch cycling gloves – all the convenience of fingerless gloves, with all the cosiness of mittens :o)

  3. Kirsty Says:

What are these Dutch cycling gloves of which you speak? They sound exciting.

  4. Vanessa Says:

Ooh! Once I’ve recovered from the six hour trip back from San Francisco, I’ll post my own 10 – what a fab idea!

  5. Em Says:

I’ve done my own crafty February Ten here:

    Thanks for the inspiration!

Hi Em, nice February 10. Thanks for sharing it. Ooh button jars! What is it that makes buttons so pleasing? I’d never be made happy by a pot of zippers, press studs or velcro but buttons! Oh!

    Glad you’re feeling inspired.
