Adventures in Eating…

Canter’s deli is for me the most fantastic, American-magic breakfast place around (mind, it does stay open 24 hours). Old-fashioned and old-old – it’s been here since the 40s- you never have to wait to be seated at Canter’s which is a huge, ‘New York style deli’ (I’ve not much experience of these myself, but that’s what I hear, anyway). This lovely picture of it was taken by Joelle when she visited LA.
Now, I’m not promoting comfort eating… though, hmm… but a miserable Sunday is instantly cheered by a huge plate of cornbeef hash and eggs. They do an excellent omlette, a great lox and bagels, and I’m sure, all kind of other culinary delights. But I keep coming back to the hash and eggs. One things Americans in general have very right indeed in my opinion is breakfast. Located on Fairfax and near Melrose, Canter’s deli has a fully-licensed bar, waiting staff with attitude, and it isn’t trying in the least to be trendy. The decor is odd, dated, and comforting. The coffee is plentiful.
I have to say, my crafty resolutions for January went so-so (you have no idea how tempted I was to write sew-sew) but by hook or by crook (I CAN’T STOP!) I have learnt how my sewing machine actually works. I’m still distracting myself, mind, with good breakfasts, and good movies. I’m hoping for a more productive and sunnier February…

American food confuses me. As does Yorkshire food – you must despair of me!
