:: New corners (lots of ‘em)

Our House 009 -

I’ve been quiet over the last week not because of the weather (LA has conversely been grey and gloomy), but because I was moving house - well, moving from an apartment to a small cottage. Only one bedroom, and a living room, I’m really happy with the way it looks inside and out and feel very much at home already! I miss having excellent neighbours living only a few doors down, but love how peaceful it is. We’re just about to go on a picture-hanging spree, so expect some ‘inside’ pictures soon!

:: The great outdoors

Posted by Joelle on May 12, 2008 | Permalink

It’s been another quiet weekend on the Four Good Corners blog. And here’s why - glorious sunshine, getting out of the city, walks, Pimms o’clock, barbecues and picnics in the park.

I hope the sun is shining on all our readers this week too.

:: It’s a bit Eye up!

london eye

Despite being pretty sure that I’d freak out and curl up in a ball under the bench until the ‘flight’ was over, I booked a go on the London Eye for my man’s birthday a couple of weekends ago. Read more…

:: New corner, new projects

book cover display -

It’s been quite a flurry of activity for me in the last few weeks, and one of the developments has been that we’re moving a few blocks East, to a small cottage (it’s basically apartment/flat sized but in it’s own building). Today Stephen and I cheekily hopped a wall and pressed our noses to the windows to remind ourselves of the space we had available in the new place. Seeing our new space inspired me to get to a project I’d been thinking of since Christmas. Kirsty sent me a gorgeous collection of book cover postcards, and I wanted to put them all in a frame as we had several old frames lying around. I finally got around to it this evening and am pleased with the results! I didn’t really have professional glue or backing, so am a bit worried the cards might slip once it’s on a wall, but that can be corrected anyway. Now I’m excited for the move next weekend!

:: Sock it to ‘em!

socks

I made socks! It was the scarier of my two NY resolutions, as I’m not that hot on DPNs, but with the Mister’s birthday coming up I decided to give it a go.

I used self-striping Opal 4-ply yarn (£6.50 from I Knit London or your LYS), which Simon chose, on 2.5mm DPNs, so the knit is thicker than everyday socks, but still quite fine. I threw a little paddy when it came to turning my first heel, then worked out what the crazy knitting language actually wanted from me and carried on. The cuff and foot knit up quite quickly and it’s definitely more instant gratification than a jumper, whilst being more interesting to work than a scarf or such. As a veteran of one whole pair of socks, though, I don’t feel like the time and money that is invested is really worth the end result. It may be because I’m slow, but I spent a good couple of weeks on these socks and, well, it’s only socks!

At least I can say that I’ve conquered DPNs!

Ayumill’s camera case
It’s funny how I go through a patch of not blogging much, not making much, doing mainly other things, and then pouf! all of a sudden ideas keep popping into my head and I can’t help it.

Here’s things that are making me feel excited today:

- really lovely camera case tutorial (pictured above) on Ayumill’s exciting new blog Pink Penguin, just crying out to me to make little quilted purses and clutch bags

- utterly charming broderie anglais pebbles from Stephanie Barnes upcoming picnic collection. I can’t fathom why these appeal quite so much to me, but they do

- Stuart Kovakolic’s amazing nine metre long Never Been mural

- cute and simple DIY paper sihouette tutorial by threepotatofour on Design*Sponge, giving me ideas for greetings cards.
